New Year - New Books!!
New Year, New Books
It’s the start of a new year, 2018! A new beginning
for some, and dramatic changes for others. It also means that there will be
hundreds of new books released! In this article we’ll take a sneak peek at some
of the fantastic new stories that authors are working on this year:
1.
Oliver Loving by Stefan Merrill Block:
The main character, Oliver
Loving has been paralyzed and locked in his own mind for almost ten years, Because
of a shooting that took place in his small town in Texas. In this
psychologically astute novel, the damaged people that surround Oliver are
attempting to make sense of what happened that night and since then. All the
while, doctors prepare a new treatment that might help Oliver communicate
again.
2.
How to stop time by Matt Haig:
How to Stop Time is the
story of a man with a rare condition: he ages extremely slowly. Even though Tom
looks like a normal middle-aged man, he’s been alive for centuries. This book
includes many fun special guests who appear throughout history and the magical
novel asks the philosophical question: What makes a life—particularly a very,
very long life—worth living?
3.
Female Persuasion by Meg Wolitzer:
In
Meg Wolitzer's new novel, The Female Persuasion, college freshman Greer
Kadetsky's life is pulled in an entirely new and crazy direction after meeting the
feminist icon Faith Frank. This book is an incredibly entertaining exploration
of female friendship and mentorship, feminism, ambition, and power.
4.
Hellbent by Gregg Hurwitz
Taken
from his group home at only twelve, Evan Smoak was raised and trained as an
off-the-books government assassin known as Orphan X. After the Orphan Program
had failed, Evan disappeared and reinvented himself as the Nowhere Man, a man
spoken about only in whispers and dedicated to helping the truly desperate. But
this time, the desperate person is Jack Johns, the man who raised and trained
him, and the only father Evan has ever known. Secret government forces are busy
trying to scrounge the remaining assets of the Orphan Program they have finally
tracked down Jack. With little time remaining, Jack gives Evan his last
assignment: find and protect his last protégé and recruit for the program. But
Evan isn’t the only one after this last Orphan — the new head of the Orphan
Program, Van Sciver, is mustering all the assets at his disposal to take out
both Evan and the target he is trying to protect.
5.
The friend by Sigrid Nunez
After a woman's best
friend and mentor kills himself, she is left with his Great Dane, who she
becomes increasingly devoted to as her grief builds. This novel is an elegant,
moving, thoughtful meditation on grief, friendship, healing, and the bonds
between humans and dogs.
And those are just five of the amazing new novels that
are coming out this year, so get your reading list ready, there’s a lot to
read!!
